take my hand tonight let's not think about tomorrowtake my hand tonight we could find some place to go(outfit) Leo needed a break from working on the farm, and endless days working at the only pub in town. It was the same people, the same thing, and Leo liked a little more variety than that. Granted, he was going to marry his high school girlfriend, gave a bunch of home grown kids and take over her family's ranch. he was going to work the land for a living and come home to a wife in a dress making apple pie. That was how his parents have grown up, and most other around here, and it looked like he would do the same. And it would just be enough, Leo didn't expect anything different. It was alright with him. He loved it here, loved Sophia (as well as he knew how).
But either way, and despite the law suits and horror stories this place produced, and the fact that he'd been coming here every summer and his days were probably numbered, he decided to stop by the carnival. Sophia was wary of it, but he didn't mind, so he decided to come alone.
But the place was overwhelming, in a good way, but he felt sort of alone this time. Just a country boy standing in the midst of so much color and shades and such. Leo sighed, kicking up the dirt as he went. At least he had the sense to change into sneakers from his work boots, or cow boy boots. he would have looked almost out of place here, since most everyone was a visitor. But Leo never got sick of coming, maybe the vague hint of danger was really a crowd pleaser.
He went over to the fenced in area where the animals were kept, he under stood animals. Only they weren't the usual kinds, sure they had horses and dogs. But instead of chickens and sheep there were elephants and llamas and lions in cages.

It wasn’t as if she actually ran around looking for trouble. That would have been silly. Still, the aura of danger was one KC couldn’t deny being attracted to. Not that she actually wanted to get hurt. She just liked to live on the edge sometimes. It made things more interesting. When she’d decided to get out of California, a small Indiana town hadn’t exactly been what she was looking for. That was until she heard about the carnival...
She’d been there three whole days without venturing toward the place yet. Even if she’d never admit it out loud she supposed she was scared. She had a right to be, didn’t she? They said people had been killed here. She had no way of knowing it wasn’t true. Still, tourists ventured in and out of the place every day, and they seemed to be alright. Sunburned and eccentric, but alive at least. That meant she should be alright.
She woke late in the day and cursed herself for it. That meant it would be hot already by the time she got there. Hurriedly, she tugged on a pair of shorts, a tank top, and a plaid overshirt. She shoved her feet into her shoes, the only thing about her that sometimes screamed “California!” and headed for the door of her hotel room. Being from a beachy area, she knew she wouldn’t come back sunburned, so the only thing she bothered to bring with her was cash and her hotel key. It was all she really needed.
As she entered the carnival, Kimberly’s stomach started to churn. Being there had a way of reminding her of all of the awful rumors about this place. Everyone seemed alright, though, and she had no reason to doubt that. Biting her lower lip, she scanned the place for something interesting. She wasn’t a major fan of carnivals. Just of mysteries, really.
A tiny smile tugged on her lips as her eyes fell on a lonely looking boy over by the animals. He didn’t quite look as uncomfortable as the tourists here, and she figured he just might be local. Without bothering to think much about it, she sauntered over to the area where he was, propping her arms up on the fence. She didn’t say anything for a couple of minutes. Just let herself get used to his nearness. She hadn’t really spent a lot of time around guys as of late, and it felt strange to be this close to one. At last, though, she realized that not speaking might be a bit on the awkward side. ”You live around here?” she asked, though it wasn’t any of her business. She just needed a way to start a conversation. [/blockquote] 456 STATUS!? completed SONG!? warm whispers – missy higgens ANYTHING ELSE!? i love you! sorry it took me so long to reply!!! take my hand tonight let's not think about tomorrowtake my hand tonight we could find some place to go(outfit) Leo had been relatively lost in thought when he noticed a small splash of change in his field of vision, but he was busy watching a lion blend into the farms of wheat behind it--with the exception of the metal cage which just looked cold and unnatural. But Leo wasn't going to do anything about it, it was just how it was, like his life. He figured things were fine the way they were.
Then someone spoke to him and he turned with a quiet. "Hm?" But then he fully registered her question and nodded lightly. "Yeah, I've never lived anywhere else." He said with a smile, squinting slightly thanks to the sun, he really had to invest in sunglasses, his mother always told him he'd go blind a young man because he was always going out in the sun without covering his eyes. He just liked it better when colors were real and nothing was obstructing his view of the world.
And of course her question meant that she either just moved here or she was a visitor--like most other people at the carnival, towns people got sick and scared of this places years ago. "So where are you from?" He asked turning to face her, tucking his thumbs in his belt loops.

Asking a question did tend to result in an answer, but KC couldn't deny being a little surprised when the guy turned to talk to her. She wasn't sure if it was his charming, slightly rugged good-guy appearance or the fact that he seemed to be able to adjust to her presence so easily. Being here just felt natural. She wasn't surprised to hear that he was, in fact, from here. The town was small and he just seemed to fit into it. Not in a bad way, of course. He just seemed so at home. Then again, he kind of struck her as the kind of person that would have been happy just about anywhere.
It took her a moment to realize he'd asked her a question and she felt the heat of a blush sneak into her cheeks. "I...uh... go to school in LA," she told him. "You've probably never heard of the town I'm from, though. We don't even get a dot on the map. Smaller than this is. And we don't have a creepy carnival to make us known." A crooked smile tugged at her lips and she raised one shoulder at him. She already felt oddly comfortable around him and KC probably couldn't have explained it if she tried.
Raking a hand through her blonde locks, she let her teeth graze her lower lip as her eyes returned to the animals. She was particularly fond of the llama on the other side of the fence. It had eyelashes most girls would kill for. It seemed funny, really, that one of those could (and readily would) spit at her. Everything else about it was adorable and almost feminine in nature. She wasn't distracted by the animal for long, though, before she remembered her manners. Her parents had taught her well. "I'm Kimberly, by the way. Kimberly Corinne. But you can call me Kim. Or Kimmie... Or even KC." A grin brightened her eyes and she nearly laughed. She wasn't one for offering so many nicknames usually. She just couldn't quite seem to keep much in. take my hand tonight let's not think about tomorrowtake my hand tonight we could find some place to go(outfit) He smiled at her as she explained where she was from. Even smaller than this place? He'd never thought that was possible. This town was so small, with so few people, sure they were on a map, but only if you got a really local one, or asked Map Quest, well, he'd never tried to put in map quest, he'd never been that far, but he figured you could.
Oh the carnival, Leo laughed at that and looked down as he did so, it was just sort of a reflex, his shaggy hair falling into his face and he shook his head lightly. "Most of us tend to avoid it, towns people I mean." He said with a shrug. It was just kind of creepy, and the novelty wore off when it was here forever.
"Nice to meet you Kim," He said just grabbing one of her nicknames. "Just call me Leo, everyone around here will know who you mean." Leo said with a smile, something about her was captivating, maybe her smile? Or the way her eyes sparkled with excitement and he couldn't figure out what was exciting.

take my hand tonight let's not think about tomorrowtake my hand tonight we could find some place to go(outfit) Leo laughed lightly and ran his fingers through his hair at the compliment, which was obvious flirting. the real problem was--he wanted to flirt back, wanted to say: I haven't found anything as interesting as you either. It might have been corny, but it would have been true. But he was engaged, that was also true. And Leo for a second began to wonder if maybe he'd been right all along, that settling for all he knew was a bad idea after all. But one line didn't mean anything and.... what ahd she just said?
Leo looked away from her face to the animals. "A kid almost got mauled last year, tiger broke loose, so no one's allowed in anymore---technically." he said sourly with a shake of his head. But he didn't want this to take that kind of tone. Nor did he want to break her into the pen to see them. "Wanna go on a ride?" He asked her. people didn't die on the rides, not ad far as he knew, they all disappeared when they went somewhere by themselves.

When she'd complained about the animals, she hadn't really expected him to offer her a logical reason. Sure, she realized that there was danger involved with the whole wild animal thing. She knew there were good reasons why people shouldn't be allowed in there with the animals. Still, she didn't like to let logic invade a good thought. There was a time and place for everything and she figured logic could be ignored every now and again.
Feeling suddenly nervous, as if she might say the wrong thing at any moment, the girl began to chew on her thumbnail. She could never keep her fingernails long. She'd developed a habit of biting them when she was younger and she'd never quite been able to shake it. At least now she was only a nail biter when she was nervous.
Kimberly was wracking her brain for something to say, a way to save the conversation, when Leo asked if she wanted to go on a ride, she felt the familiar smile creeping back onto her face. "I don't see why not," she answered. "It's a carnival. I might as well treat it like one, hm?" That and she figured getting away from the animals would help her keep up the conversation. She hadn't been quite this nervous about a person's opinion of her for as long as she could remember. [/blockquote]

take my hand tonight let's not think about tomorrowtake my hand tonight we could find some place to go(outfit) Leo gave a good natured laugh, "So what do you wanna go on?" He asked her starting to walk away from the animal pen nodding with his head for her to follow, getting lost was part of how people just vanished into thin air, and if Kim vanished... well... it might be a little harder to breathe, and that scared him. He wasn't supposed to care so much about her or what happened to her. They were perfect strangers after all. But her conversation was already more thrilling than Sophia's.....
"I always like the swings, sophia's partial to the farris wheel..." Crap! He hadn't meant to talk about Sophia. "Or you know there's game booths we can try, I'm pretty good at darts, the shooting rang but thats about it." But what farm boy was bad with a gun? You learned how to use one out here, not like you really needed it....

Amusement parks were something she had a lot of experience with. That being said, she knew practically every ride known to man, and she wasn't sure just which one she was willing to try today. She listened to Leo's suggestions, barely arching her eyebrow when he mentioned Sophia. The girl could be anyone, really, and it wasn't any of her business. Not at this point, anyway.
Quickening her pace, KC caught up to him. At the mention of games, she instantly grabbed his hand and pulled him toward the rides. She worked the game booths at the amusement park, and that was the last thing she wanted to deal with at this point. Besides, most of the games were completely rigged. She knew they wouldn't win and there really was no point trying.
"How about the swings?" she asked, headed in that direction. It took her another second or two to realize that she was still holding his hand. Her cheeks burned in a fiery blush and she dropped his hand right away. "So who's Sophia?" she asked, more for something to talk about than because she was actually interested. take my hand tonight let's not think about tomorrowtake my hand tonight we could find some place to go(outfit) Swings were of course fine, he liked the swings. Hadn't he just said that? And he had not been expecting her to grab his hand and if he had been a blushing man, he might have gone pink. But he just followed her lead, feeling the warmth that was her hand before she pulled it away and asked him a question he was almost ashamed to answer. Leo sighed and looked at her sideway before saying, "Sophia is my fiancé." He said biting his lip softly and looking ahead of them. He wished it wasn't that way, just right then. Leo had never gotten to really know any other girls, he dated a few before Sophia, but that was back in early high school. Times changed, he changed, but he was supposed to love the same, he figured it was safer, figured it was better and he found himself almost ready and willing to tell Kim how much he was unsure of. But he wasn't sure why.

take my hand tonight let's not think about tomorrowtake my hand tonight we could find some place to go(outfit) "I'm not always so sure that she is," Leo said, the words sl;ipping off his tongue before he could catch the so far unspoken thought. Sophia wasn't lucky, because Leo not only had been getting cold feet, but a slight change of heart. Sure he liked it here in Oakwood, and he wanted to stay, but he did want to know something else, he wanted to try. He'd been settling for years, two year community college, staying on at the farms working with teens, his only real romance that had meant anything just made his final one because there were no other options and it seemed logical. Sure Leo love Sophia, he did, but he just didn't think she was the one. She would do and he'd love her and be happy, but Kim-- with no fault to anything she'd done-- was making him feel that maybe it was worth finding the girl who would give him the right fairy tale ending.
"Look, no line," He commented as they got closer to the swings, he just wanted to stop thinking about Sophia, stop talking about her. he liked simplicity, and Sophia was simple.... but she wasn't captivating, she was charming, and easy on the eyes and kind and warm.... but she was dull. Maybe that was his biggest problem, he just needed a sort of controlled excitement in his life. Leo smiled at her, since well, they weren't anything to each other, even though he'd been feeling something in the air with them that he could not for the life of him name or understand. And he wanted to ease the tension he noticed in the air.

take my hand tonight let's not think about tomorrowtake my hand tonight we could find some place to go(outfit) Leo was stuck now, what did he want to say. She'd just told him that he was good looking and polite and she'd cut herself off before she admitted anything else, feelings maybe too strong for strangers to feel. Feelings that Leo himself had stirring around in his insides. And he founds the words bubbling out of him before he could stop them and he could only pray afterwards that no one who knew him were there to over hear.
"Well, I suppose I'll give you those, but I mean, this town... I'm alright with being here, I like it here. I love the simplicity of it," Leo started to explain, not sure how he was going to explain or if she'd understand or why he wanted her to understand. "Sophia and I are like everyone else around here. We dated in through almost all of high school, she went to a good college near by and I went to a two year so I could get back to helping her dad with her family's ranch. And she cooks for me and says nice things, and sure she's beautiful and wants kids, less than I want, but doesn't mind.... but she doesn't exactly excite me. I don't mean that biologically...." She was beautiful enough, and he was physically attracted to her but that wasn't the point.
"She just doesn't captivate my mind, she's sort of dull..... but I do love her, I just figured I wasn't going to do any better hanging around here and it was better to take someone I did care about and live my life the way it was expected to go. You know, take what you can get because if you pass it you don't know for sure that you'll ever find anything better."
Leo had never admitted that out loud to anyone, not a soul, and in a town like this, new traveled fast. Leo looked around them carefully, but saw no one, and while he was thankful for that, he was painfully aware of how this might sound to Kim, and what it might mean. He never usually went on and on like that and he found himself lapsing into uncharacteristic silence. he usually laughed things off, he was carefree, that's what anyone would tell you.
"Yeah, lines just eat time," he said lamely, feeling sort of dazed and he left her side for a swing, hoping she would follow and sit on the one next to him, but he wouldn't blame her if she just ran the other way.
