Danny had gone to the Carnival because Carnival's were said to cheer you up, and Danny needed cheering up. People always said that the Carnival of Oakwood was suspicious and to stay away from it, they were weary of it, the people who lived in the town. That's what made Danny go to it. But that wasn't his reason than. His reason than was Carnivals were said to cheer you up. He should have known better. It was the Carnival of Fears, after all, and people disappeared in it. Danny would not be cheered up there.
Why was Danny so down? It had been two days - two days since the night at Caldwell Field. Lily had kissed him than ran away. He hadn't seen her since. She was avoiding him, he knew it. She hadn't meant to kiss him - or worse, she'd been able to tell how he'd felt and it was just a sympathy kiss. She didn't feel the same way, that much Danny knew. Why else would she be avoiding him? Danny couldn't think of a reason.
Danny sighed as he stepped into the line for the Ferris Wheel. It was all for the better, anyways. That way he had nothing to hold him to Oakwood - he'd be leaving any day. But he knew he wouldn't be. He had to at least see her one more time before he left. He could tell that he was really attached to her - his brother told him so. Yes, his brother knew about Lily, he couldn't hide anything from him, since they slept in the same room and Danny talked in his sleep. He didn't know why he had slept at home last night. But apparently he had said Lily's name more often than leaving Oakwood.
Danny sighed as he got onto the Ferris Wheel. It started going. Up he went, and down. He went around once before it let somebody else on the same seat with him. He looked over just as they were sitting down.
It was Lily.

It wasn't that she was avoiding him. Not exactly. They didn't normally run into each other, not really, and Lily didn't make an effort to find him. She was terrified of what he was thinking about what happened. The kiss... it had just happened... and she wanted to do it again, but she didn't want to guilt trip him into staying in a town where he hated, and she didn't know if she could face the rejection she was so sure was coming.
Every time she'd seen him in the past two days, she'd almost say something, almost call to him, and then she'd fall apart with fear and couldn't get the words out. But today, she had to do something. So she marched herself to the Parson farm looking for him, his twin told her where to go, and her younger sister wished her good luck and Lily went to find him at the Carnival.
She'd seen him in line for the Ferris Wheel and jumped into the line to try and catch him, or end up in the same car. The line moved quickly and the Carnie standing there to let people in was a young woman with coffee colored skin and bright eyes. Exotic to say the least, and Lily shyly asked her if she could make sure to let her into Danny's box on the ride.
She complied and Lily stepped inside without saying anything at all until she sat down and looked sideways at him, biting her lip. And the second the old wheel began to turn she started to talk, before he could say anything to break the silence. "Look, I'm sorry about not saying anything sooner, I really tried, but I didn't think I could take you turning me down, since I know you wanna get out of this town... I didn't want to guilt trip you into staying that's really... not my intention, I just..." Lily faltered meeting his eyes for the first time. "I really like you, and in the field... well... we just sort of clicked and..." Lily wasn't even sure what she wanted to say to him anymore. She just wanted him to know and understand what she meant. Danny was smart, he would get it.

Danny expected her to jump out as soon as she saw who the other one in the box was. He was surprised as she continued to sit and look at him. He just starred at her, taking in everything, expecting it to be the last time he would see her. He didn't say a word, afraid he might say something that would ruin his last moment with her. But as the right began to move, she began to speak.
Danny was shocked. She'd felt it too in the field, how they had clicked. He felt it once more in the cart the electricity between them and had to grab onto the edge of the box so as not to reach over to touch her. But she'd been afraid of Danny turning her down? She didn't want to guilt trip him into leaving...him leaving...well, they'd get to that later, it didn't matter then. She liked him.
"Lily," Danny said, glad she was finally looking at him. He didn't know what to do, having never done anything of the sort. He wished he'd watched more movies than he had having never watched barely a movie - besides read a book. He untangled one of his hands from the hold of the side of the cart and reached over to tuck a piece of hair behind her ear. "The person who rejects you would be stupid." He moved closer to her before adding, "I though you were avoiding me because you'd thought you'd made a mistake." He held his breath waiting for her to say he was correct, and he'd misunderstood her words.

His fingers were gentle and they burned across her face as he tucked away a bit of her wind blown hair. Her blue eyes flickered back to look at him and she laughed softly, not tauntingly, almost as if relieved. He liked her and thought she didn't feel it too? "Of course not, I was afraid to talk to you because I didn't want to find out what you thought. What if you didn't like me at all?" She said. But of course she could see now, that he did like her, if she was understanding correctly. Sometimes it was better to live a dream, live in hope, than to find out the truth. that is what had kept her away. the fear of being whole heartedly rejected.
She smiled lightly and couldn't hold back any longer and clasped his hand in hers. "I guess I didn't need to worry so much...". Her eyes traced over his face, lading on his eyes softly.

Danny let out a breath of whole hearted relief as his eyes lit up bright. They'd both been afraid the other was going to reject them - yet neither had had anything to worry about, they both had felt the same thing that night in the field as they lied side by side. They had both felt themselves connected, and neither had need be afraid of the rejection they had felt. Two days worth of worry for nothing. But Danny didn't care. He felt that all melt away as he sat there beside Lily.
Danny felt her hands clasp around his, and they felt warm on his. "No, you didn't," He murmured, moving closer as the Ferris wheel stopped to let more people on. He looked around to check if anyone was looking than took a double take. So what if anyone was looking? Danny didn't care.
Danny looked back at Lily and hesitated a second before leaning in and pressing his lips to hers softly. He kissed her gently before pulling away just as the Ferris Wheel began to move again.

She barely heard his words, she was too busy noticing how strong and big and warm his hand was. How close his face was to hers, and how badly she wanted to close the gap. Lily couldn't have cared if anyone was watching--let them look-- she hadn't even noticed the ride had come to a stop to refill for the last time before going around for the alloted number of times, her heart and mind were still spinning.
His lips lay on hers longer than they had touched in the field, and she could feel the sweetness of it, the warmth of his body was so close... and then he pulled away. Lily gave a little pout, but she couldn't hold it, and it turned into a grin as she reached and arm around him and kissed him one more time, for a little longer.
Lily was blushing when she pulled away, but she was smiling broadly as the cart rose up and up and up around the axis of the ride. Looking out she saw the town, practically in it's entirety. Had this wheel always been so big? The sight made her uneasy. What if the cart gave way? And she scooted a little closer to Danny without realizing it.

Danny noticed the small pout when he pulled away from her, though it quickly turned into a smile. Before he could speak a word her arm was wrapped around him and she was kissing him once more. He smiled through the kiss as he kissed her back, Lily holding the kiss for longer than the two put together.
When Lily did finally pull away Danny's smile was a big one though Lily's cheeks were on fire. He pressed the back of his hand to her left one feeling the heat radiating of it, trying to lower her blush, but just wanting to continue to touch her. But as the wheel rose up Danny noticed her uneasiness and saw her scoot closer. He raised an eyebrow. Lily, scared of heights? That was something he'd never noticed before.
"Are you scared of heights?" Danny couldn't help but tease her quietly, though he wrapped an arm around her, glad to have her even closer to him. The feelings were oh so new to him, yet they felt wonderful. Danny wasn't sure if he ever would get used to them, but he liked them. It was confusing, but as Lily sat there close to them it was the happiness he felt when he thought about leaving Oakwood. No, it was better.

Lily laughed lightly and snuggled herself closer as Danny out his arm around her. that seemed the right thing to do. She hadn't really had a boyfriend before. She'd been on a few dates, met a few nice guys, but... this was still a new feeling, not like she minded. It felt so good it was worth the awkwardness and the embarrassment that was sure to ensue when people found out.
"Maybe a little," Lily said. "I've just never been so high, and its not like this place has been without accidents... I'd rather not fall to my death right now is all." Lily said jokingly, but truth was, she was scared of just falling to the ground from here. But as long as she was with Danny, she wasn't too scared. And she'd die pretty happy.
But they kept on turning.

Danny smiled as she admitted to being a bit afraid of heights. He wrapped his arms fully around her as he said, "You think I'd let you fall?" He said as they continued to fall. But he understood, everybody was afraid of something, even if himself, though he wasn't sure if he was more afraid of the thing itself or people finding out he was afraid of it, since he was one to hide his fears. He wondered if he would ever tell Lily his fear of horses. Maybe if she asked, but only if.
The wheel continued to turn, and the wheel did not fall. It went around once more before it was their turn to be let off. Danny sighed as he got off the Ferris Wheel with Lily, her small soft hand still in his large farm worked one. He wanted people to see that they were together, and knowing about how the wedding between Leo and Sophia had been talked to the ground, (and it hadn't really been a surprise) they needed new gossip for the town.
"So, what do you want to do now?" Danny asked Lily, looking around the Carnival that was crowded for a small town - than again, more people were getting off that train every day.

Lily liked that he kept holding her hand, made her feel wanted, like he wanted to show everyone what he had gained. People would talk about it for weeks, she was sure of that. the good student, the girl who felt so much and was bright and optimistic girl who was now dating the boy known for getting in trouble and doing poorly in school. But there was so much more to him, and she was glad she could glimpse the softer side of him so often.
"Oh, I don't really care," Lily told him with a shrug and a little smile. She didn't care much, she just liked being with him, so weather they got food or went on another ride or left the park altogether it didn't matter. Lily squeezed his hand lightly and looked over at him with a little smile. She couldn't really believe she had him, and was suddenly desperate to kiss him again, but she didn't, not wanting to seem overbearing.
"I mean, anything's really okay with me, we can play games, go on another ride, get some food, go for a walk around town.. whatever."

Danny could already see people talking behind there hands. Some didn't even care to hide it, they pointed openly. Why wouldn't they? Danny was known for getting into trouble, he'd been arrested a few times (for nothing serious, and some he really shouldn't have been) and he'd been rejected from every college he'd applied to, plus barely scraped the grades to graduate high school. Lily, on the other hand, was a good student, who spent quality time with her family, could get almost anybody to smile and see the beauty in something, who got high grades and had a bright future awaiting her. Sure, they'd been friends, but this was different, together? That would get people talking. Danny was just happy (and surprised) he was with Lily.
"Well, you just have to make it difficult, don't you?" Danny said, stopping and turning to look at her. He tried to make a frown on his face, but it ended up as a lopsided grin, as he was just too happy to frown. "I want to do what you want to do, and you don't care what we do, so what does that mean we do?" Danny wasn't a hundred percent sure what he said just made sense, but he'd stick with it and wait for her to figure it out.

Lily just laughed as people watched them, so never shied away from people, but she'd never been so front and center before. But as long as it was because she was with danny, she'd be alright. Besides, people should have been thinking about how Lily--of all people-- could smooth a few of his edges. Not like she was interested in changing him.
Lily laughed at his words. She only wanted to do what he wanted to do. "Ummmmmmmm." She pursed her lips and furrowed her eyebrows slightly. What could they do... Part of her wanted to get away from all the people, even if there were fewer towns people at the carnival then their would be in town. She kind of didn't want to stay here anymore.
"Let's get out of here, this place is kinda... eh..." Lily shrugged, but Danny would get the point. This place had an underlying feeling on danger she didn't really like. She steered him to the exit to the carnival and out. But after that, she hadn't figured out what should come next.

Danny watched as she pursed her lips and furrowed her eyebrows in thought, and he thought it was cute how she did that as he watched her try and figure out something they could do. It seemed that all she had had in mind to begin with was to find him and explain to him what had happened, and than she had no idea. From what she had first said to him it sounded as though she had thought he had not felt the same way. But he, of course, did. He didn't make a suggestion of what to do for two reasons. One, he never knew what to do and usually just ended up wandering and ended where he ended (he'd been surprised to see himself up next for the Ferris Wheel), and two, he was having too much fun watching her.
Finally she came up with something. She wanted to get out of the carnival and started steering him to the exit of the carnival, him willingly following. He knew the feeling she meant, and, usually, he liked that feeling. That was what usually brought him there in the first place often. But at that time, having just under covered a relationship with Lily, that was a feeling he didn't want, and so to the exit they went, though more townspeople and more whispers it would bring.

Lily was thankful to be out of there, she didn't mind it really. but she'd been anxious for two days and was now giddy, she didn't want to feel uncomfortable again. The only problem was where they were going to go now. Should they go back to the field? or the park? Or to get something to eat? Or one of their houses? It was midday, food and shade sounded good. But anywhere they could get both would have people....
"Oh, just so you know, your family might have already figured it out... I went there looking for you, that's how I knew where to find you." Lily admitted to him. He figured his brother or parents were bound to bug him over this, but the Parson's had never had anything against her in the past, why should they now?
"I hate to say this, but I'm kind of hungry...." So either they had to go and get food out where people would see them, or head to one of their houses and deal with family. Lily didn't want to slipt with him just yet, they hadn't even been together for very long yet.

So she hadn't just spotted him at the Carnival, she'd gone looking for him at his house. Why did that make him giddy? But she was lucky, for once in there life somebody at his house had known where he would be. He'd been working today, having said he would, but he'd been distracted and down. His brother, who'd been working with him, had noticed, and having already heard about Lily (as he had asked why Danny had said her name in his sleep, he really wished he didn't talk in his sleep!) he'd just told him to go and do something to distract him, and when Danny had asked what, he'd suggested the Carnival.
"Well, depends on who you ran into. By the sounds of it, you ran into my brother 'cause he's the only one who knew where I was, and he already knew how I felt because....I....ummm......talk in my sleep....." He mumbled the last part, not looking at her. He'd basically just admitted he talked about her while he was asleep, which meant he dreamed about her.
Danny looked at her when she said she was hungry. Well, he had to make sure she ate, he wasn't going to let her starve. But he'd let her make the choice of where to eat. "OK than, let's eat. Where do you want to go?"
